Im at 850 miles was thinking of getting my break-in oil change around 1500 miles. Is there anything else I should do at that time or just an oil change is all thats needed?

I was wondering the same thing.

I just hit 744 miles and was thinking of a change but I heard what I want is thinking old school and not needed anymore.

I really don't know much and this is my first new car. I appreciate any insight you motorheads here have.

I’m not a mechanic but I’d probably wait until the oil life/health gauge says 50-60% at least, unless the level itself is low, I think the manual says it might burn some in the break-in.

That oil life sensor should detect debris and what not from my understanding. My guess at 744 miles your gauge is still over 80% or higher depending on how you drove it.

What’s interesting is the manual doesn’t even have a recommended oil change schedule. I’ve never seen that before. It just says to not exceed 10,000 miles, 12 months time, or 350 hours of engine runtime.

There is no break in oil now days. Most that are changing oil at around 1000 or 1500 miles do it just in case you have some metal shavings in the oil. Most likely the reason they did not put a mileage recommendation in the book as you now have an oil life notification as to needing to change oil. Later RJD

Where is the oil life monitor at? You guys getting it analyzed?

it’s in the instrument cluster under vehicle info, just scroll to that and push down/up on the steering wheel control until you get to oil life.

LOL! I meant what life % does it read at that low of a mileage? I have run my Hellcat to 0% and have had no deterioration ever. I DO use the K&N filter though.

Probably around 90% Later RJD

Mine is at 93% with 500 miles. Wouldn’t the filter catch any metal shavings? 🤔. I’m just not sold on changing it at 1500 miles.

Filter should and it should have a magnetized drain plug. Later RJD

Last time I had a brand new car 91 Mustang LX 5.0 I did the first oil change at 800 Miles I’m about 790 now so will schedule my first flexcare change this week

I doubt it's really necessary. So much new technology. Later RJD

The dealership is brought my scat from gIves free oil changes for the first full year so I took advantage of it at 1400 miles....just peice of mind. If it makes sense to you to get one....(just incase) get one. If not I wouldn't go more then 3000 before my first.....my sticker now says im due for one around 7500 miles....will not be waiting that long it will be done around every 3000 no matter what (turbo engines need oil changes) more often to stay healthy

Yes, it would. Bearing material is not steel so a magnet wouldn't catch it anyway. I tried a magnetic plug and never caught anything, so went back to the factory plug. I agree on changing it early. If you worried, get an analysis done for $40 and sleep better! :)

Never worried about this stuff. In the 20+new vehicles I bought never had a problem and just change oil when due or a little before. Kind making a mountain out of a mole hill. :)Later RJD
