I’ve had my R/T for about two weeks now and love the car. I hate the adaptive cruise control. Is there a way to disable the adaptive feature? I can’t find anything in the manual and I tried looking in the settings menus and can’t find anything.

There is no way around this that I know of. Later RJD

I can't answer your question but I am very curious why you don't like adaptive cruise. Have you had it before and just hate it on the Charger or is this your first experience with it?

I haven't used any ACC yet either. What happens if you cover the front sensor?

Most likely you will get a warning you are to close and it will probably beep till you remove the what ever you used to cover it. Later RJD

Or...........you could just go over 90???????? I-294 around Chicago/O'Hare on a weekend is like that.

Don't think that would solve the problem. Later RJD

When I pass a vehicle on the highway I accelerate, get in the passing lane, pass the vehicle, get back back over into the right lane, maintain passing speed to put some space between me and the vehicle I just passed. Then let off the gas and coast down to the previous set speed. The system in this car applies the brakes as soon as you get off the gas. Very annoying. My first experience with these so called driver assistance systems was years ago. I had to take the company van to customer site. The car up ahead of me got off on an exit ramp that curved along with the highway, and when it slowed at the end of the ramp, the system in the van decided to jam on the brakes full force at 70mph with no warning. If there was ice on the road that day I would have been dead. The Chrysler 300 I traded for this car had both normal and adaptive cruise. Never used the adaptive cruise. I also shut off the automatic emergency braking after the first time it smashed on the brakes because it thought I was going to hit something.

I have not driven a mopar with adaptive cruise but on my Fords and BMWs, adaptive cruise and emergency braking are two totally separate things. If I speed up to pass a car, it just coasts until back to the set speed; and never brakes in that scenario. I am very surprised that the Charger applies brakes.

The emergency braking is different on my vehicles and will activate whether using cruise or not. Rarely does it ever activate, though, unless the vehicle or object is very close....such as someone pulling out of a side street and the closing rate is high and distance is close. It has a audible warning first. I would be surprised if you couldn't turn that off or adjust the sensitivity.

Pretty sure if you cover the sensor then you just lose cruise control entirely. Happened this winter on a very slushy day.
I also wish I could just have regular cruise control. Adaptive is fine 90% of the time, but if a car crosses my path or comes to a stop WAY ahead of me it brakes WAY too early, even on the minimum setting. It's going to get me rear-ended.

I will say, on the thruway this car does ACC better than others that I have tried.

Edit to clarify: when I say it brakes I don't mean emergency brakes, ACC slows the car aggressively about 150-200 feet from stopped cars, even at like 30mph.

Apparently, some manufacturers do it differently. If a car pulls in front of me extremely closely, the ACC I am accustomed to doesn't brake IF the car is accelerating away. If it is NOT accelerating away, it will coast until the preset distance is reached. Obviously if the car pulling in is dangerously close or slows down my car will brake....but so would I if I wasn't using cruise.

Yes, they are two different systems. With my 300, the emergency braking was active no matter what. I could shut off the braking but the alarms would still do their

Yes, the braking seems very aggressive after passing and getting back in the right lane with nothing in front of me. Let off the gas and it will drop from 80mph to 70 in a couple of seconds. Probably an artifact from Carlos Tavares outsourcing all the software code writing to the cheapest labor he could find.

Does it not have the option to switch to normal cruise? My wife's Subaru you press the distance option button and hold for 3 seconds to switch it from adapt to normal cruise.
Haven’t tried that yet. Thanks! I held down the cruise on/off button and heard a chime and got a warning ACC was unavailable. Gonna try the distance setting later today.

Well that is a con for me. This is not a deal breaker for me but it definitely is a con. I see no reason why it cant have a normal non Adaptive cruise control. Although I guess I can just put my foot down to defy it.

Might be something federal, seems to be all cars are that way now.
EDIT, according to CoPilot, it is not mandated

Could be that, but my money is on avoiding lawsuits from "I swear I had it in adaptive mode!" or "it just turned itself off and I crashed!"

Just use the standard cruise control. It is the button to the right of the Adaptive Cruise Control button, in between the "Cancel" & "Resume" buttons.

Do you mean this one?

That is ACC + ADA (Lane Centering)
FWIW, I LOVE ACC and ADA! I use it all the time. But I HATE LKA (Lane Keep Assist) that is the only thing I turn off.
