A/C on defeats the start/stop. My question is how are any of you driving in August WITHOUT the A/C on? It's 95 degrees with 68% humidity in my town.

BINGO! They complain about having to turn it off every start-up, so this is the perfect solution!!!!!!

I mean have people actually seen the engine shut off at stop lights, or whenever, showing that it is working. There are SO many conditions that have to be met first. I've tried everything and never saw mine engage.

Mine hasn't either, and I'm roughly at 3500 kms (barely under 2175 miles).

There a several conditions that have to be met before s/s will shut off the engine. Some of them are: cabin temperature must be at at set point, grade cannot be too steep, steering wheel angle must be straight or close to being straight, and, most importantly, the batteries must have sufficient charge. If you are stopped, with the brake pedal fully pressed, and the engine has not stopped, scroll the the vehicle info screen to the stop/start system and it will tell you if it is ready, and if it's not, it will say the reason why. If, after driving a while, the reason is the battery is charging or not sufficiently charged, that is bad news. I've had two Pacificas with s/s and when it starts giving that message, it means one of the batteries is bad or going bad. Eventually the bad battery (usually the small one) starts draining the main battery more and more until one day, your car won't start. At that point you will likely need two new batteries so be sure to have each of them tested separately. The moral of the story is to turn the s/s off each and every time you drive your car.

Another condition I discovered: it needs to be in "D" and not in any manual gear. If you gear down to slow to your stop and the forget to take it out of "1", then S/S won't activate. Great post ^ especially that you mentioned the small battery and the special screen that tells you about S/S status.

As long as you have air on it will never go to S/S no matter D or 1st gear. Later RJD

I am SO happy then. I can't ever imagine driving w/o AC!!!!!!!!!

For those of you that don't live in cold climates, the AC compressor does engage when in DEFROST mode. It pumps dry air to the windshield.

I'm trying to say that my compressor will probably never be off! I like my AC and clear windows when cold. Only a true northerner and old timer can understand this. I'm out......

Well I lived in Illinois for a long time know what its about but in the fall you need neither. Roll the windows down and enjoy the fresh air. I'll bet you you have done that. Later RJD

Look in the manual and there's many, many of weird conditions.

I run mine at 2-4 sometimes, #1 a lot, and it still never kicks in. It's almost sounding like each car is different, huh???????

You don't even need it to catch up to cabin tem. As long as AC is on is not going to kick in S/S Later RJD
