Yeah it seems be have been a legal requirement to default on, which I think is dumb. I'm not blaming Dodge/Stellantis for anything other than their choice to include the "feature" on a performance car.

My 16 R/T certainly guzzled fuel while idling, that could have used start/stop. Nobody has cracked the PCM yet, Diablosport appears to have the head start story for another thread ....
Doesn't work while in park, only while hitting the brakes. General consensus is that it does more for emissions than it does for gas consumption. If you live in an area where you spend a ton of time at stop lights or you have a lot of stopped traffic it will definitely help with fuel, but otherwise it doesn't do much.
Traffic is chill near me and stop lights are short so it doesn't do much.
And yeah, no full tunes yet, just a little boost for now.

I just read that it is no longer required, and 2027 Rams will no longer come with it. It will be interesting to see if these 2027 models still have it when built.

It would be nice if they pushed an update to make the button *stay* on or off.
I did a little research on this. Start/Stop was never formally government mandated. The manufacturers that used start/stop received credits that benefitted them when determining compliance with emissions regulations. In order to get the full credit, start/stop had to be implemented as defaulting to on every time the vehicle was started. The current administration has modified the emissions requirements, and the manufacturers no longer receive credit for start/stop. Whether they remove the "feature" or not is still an open question.
I think you will fine that it may happen since some of the vehicles that Stellantis Has had numerous issues with the system so I would think it will save them money on all the warranty work. Later RJD

Hopefully the manufactures will eliminate the feature as no more tax credit and as many issues manufactures have had with it costing them money to repair wipes out any money gained. Later RJD

I've been watching the debacle on the Gm 6.2, L87 mess, and they've been showing the 2027 Silverado's. They will still physically have a button, but people aren't sure whether it will be activated or not. Maybe Dodge just doesn't want to redesign that actual plate of buttons to save money?
You're likely close with this guess. They can just put a dead button in though. More likely they don't want to redesign and re-test the car with the cheaper parts. The system requires a bigger battery and more robust starter that can handle the extra start cycles. They probably can't just swap those for cheaper parts without going through testing.
Plus they are never sure when regulations in different areas might change again. Next year some other country might require something similar.
