This new forum just may work to tie together the threads.... I am just starting to create a start of an IDEA here.
So far, my only completed appearance projects are the Mopar floor and cargo mats
I have the Mopar Sun shade shipping soon and my Tufskinz bumper letters are due in on Saturday
For performance I got the Continental Extreme Contact sport 02 big upgrade in cornering grip and steering, with hardly any change in ride or noise. Will need winter tires as a result as this will be my daily driver
And finally the re-install of the JB4 and track testing last night. I am definitely going to want MOAR so why not embrace the rabbit hole. Insert picture of the actual install, currently just lots of pictures of the harness connectors I broke and eventually fixed. Just don't be a dope and figure out how they release first, hint when done correctly this car pulls apart easy, watch some of the You tubes like Boosted Motorsports who documented gutting the entire interior and tearing up the drivetrain etc....
I am a chemist by trade and all the DATA that can be collected is irresistible. The traditional method is to look at the slip the time keeper gives you after each run. This gives some good info like the 60 foot which shows how well you launch, speed at various distances etc..
So now we can add much more info. Lets' look at the best 0-60 result, you can use the performance timers, but a better way is to use the Draggy GPS/accelerometer device that generates a speed/distance/acceleration and calculates the Density altitude. This tells you much more The G force of acceleration is very interesting though my altitude info is not correct as I was at sea level, not in death valley. The times this generates matches up well with the NHRA proven optical timing system at the local track.
Now the JB4 can datalog so gotta look at that!!! lots more parameters can be graphed, the tuner that sold me the unit told me to watch for detonation going past map 2 on pump gas. So I ran last night blending E85 to get about 30% Ethanol in the tank, again as recommended. You really get a picture of how the car is launching at the starting line using the Launch control the RPM don't get over 2900 or so due to the stall speed of the torque converter despite showing up to 4000 rpm on the screeen.
Did I mention a Rabbit hole haha.. So the E30 project lead me to test the E85 I bought after seeing the label of 51- 85% Ethanol on the pump. I happen to have a $70,000 agilent 7890B Gas Chromtograph at work, similar to what they use on CSI to run GC/Mass Spec testing. Yeah they make it look easy, and we don't have the $70,000 Mass spec detector so I have to calibrate with known compounds. I already had Ethanol set up, shooing in a known amount bingo.... well still had to do a bit of manual calculation Only had 55% in the E85 and 7.7% in the 93 unleaded. I since found out where to get real VP racing fuel locally, that will have either 85 or 98% consistent Ethanol content. So 5 gallons in the tank, and top off with 93 for track day.
I also ran different maps back to back to see how it works. I ended up with a pile of slips not sure which was witch, but the time stamps show the order and I know I went 0, 2, 3 and 4 to start the fun. Then mostly map 4. So I will mark this down in the future. I started with Map 0 just stock with the 30% ethanol fuel A bit faster than the previous trip at 12.1 So one other takeaway, here is map 2, less than 0.1 sec off the Map 4 which required the Ethanol blend and did see the engine heating up to 225 at the end of the run normally about 195. For the street it doesn't make sense to go further.
My future plans are how to manage the heat and let the beast loose. I can feel it flatten out around the 1/8 and the data log shows this. I will do some homework and talk to the tuner and plan to return to the track in October when the fall weather has rolled in. The track closes on October 31, this will give me a free peak at showing if heat buildup is a factor.
So future plans.. HOOD SCOOP , gotta wait out for either dodge to release this one, or someone to make their own. This will allow a real CAI and also cold air for under the hood.
This leads into the Super Bee, the new nose has much more cooling airflow to support the 600 hp in a factory setup. Suspension upgrades and the Brembo brakes from the EV track pack option. Again, waiting for someone to knock this part off is more likely than getting one from Dodge.
I am looking into Intake mods, and some type of exhaust. These are coming available, I may get a local shop to make me a fat single 3.5" center section instead of a X pipe and keep the stock valved mufflers. Not really a fan of the Magnaflow setup. The Roadkill nights You tube builds really got me excited, just need to avoid going too far, but time and $$ should help hold me back
