I have only seen the 797 performance shop car in person, and even then they headed off to the tint shop before I could check it out.

I have rolled by the CDJR dealer close to work, they have a few on the lot, none in the wild yet
 
Maybe because Auto + Eco only has the 300 HP setting?
It doesn't seem any slower in ECO, I was planning to test that on the track, it will go into Launch in ECO It seems to do better on the highway in ECO on uphill grades. Only found ECO a few weeks ago, when someone mentioned it and I looked for it. Just fine for driving to work

I didn't even think to try launch in eco! lol Did you launch it in eco?
 
I have not done in eco. Eco supposedly limits hp. Later RJD
 
Just cleared 300 miles tonight, so she's officially broken in!
 
500 miles is the recommended break in mileage . Later RJD
 
Owners manual states 300 miles (500 km).
This applies for both EV and ICE Chargers.

According to the RHO community, which have had the HO hurricane longer, and AI… takes somewhere around 2k-5k miles for the rings in the engine to fully seat and bearing surfaces to polish in addition to the ECU to learn your setup for any variations.

After that point many are experiencing significantly more horsepower, performance, and smoother mechanics. 🤷‍♂️

I’m around 2k and the car seems to be shifting better in automatic, but I’ve not noticed more power.

When I bought the car, a service advisor suggested a 500 mile break-in. But I think he was confusing "miles" with "kilometers" as indicated in the manual.
So 300 miles is what the owners manual advises. Good enough for me!

I followed what the manual said and since then been driving it like I stole it 😂. I did seem to burn a bit of oil by 1200 miles, but dealership said it was probably fine until 4k.

Old school technology basically with the way engines are built today and the oil use these engines are ready to go.

For sure, but the ring seating and ECU are things that will limit peak power for a few thousand miles, especially in modern turbo engines.

Probably around 20-50hp added once the rings seat and the bearing surfaces polish up and the ecu dials in. Not something that will happen in the first 500. That said I don’t think there are really any restrictions on how to drive the car to get there, but there are driving strategies to accelerate it, like not sitting at the same rpm for long drives etc in the first few thousand miles. Varied speed and acceleration patterns is always better for speeding up the process.

That said, I don’t know if 20-50hp off the peak is enough to notice when this rips at over 500 torque on low rpm regardless. Probably why it still “feels fast” in eco, because the early and flat torque curve is still there.

Some of this is also old school. Nothing else mentioned for varying speed after 300 miles. Years ago on my new Chevy DRW recommended was a 1000 miles at various speed and had to have 500 miles on truck before towing. I've already driven mine at a steady 75mph so we shall see. Later RJD

I think there is technically nothing “to do” other than what the manual says… just pointing out you’re not going to have peak power until the engine fully seals up to hold the turbo pressure and the ECU learns how to shift and do what it does efficiently, which varies between cars enough that it’s an unknown for a few thousand miles.

This is well known about modern turbo engines like the HO Hurricane, not really old school.


From break-in alone (ring seating + ECU learning) on modern turbocharged engines generally:

• Ring seating typically accounts for 2-5% power improvement
• ECU learning and fuel trim optimization can add another 1-3%
• Combined that’s realistically 3-8% on a fully broken in vs brand new engine
 
Every automobile forum I've ever been on has this exact dialogue going on about "vehicle break-in".
No exceptions. Every single one of them. And the answers people offer are always the same.
I've always responded with one remark because there are no other logical conclusions.
The manufacturer is the one who foots the bill when things break under warranty.
They've made themselves responsible through the guidelines they've written.
So follow their official recommendations.

These are the manufacturers official recommendations:
  1. Long break-in's are NOT required
  2. Drive moderately for the first 300 miles
  3. Short full throttle bursts are okay during that period
That's it. Their engineers/lawyers thought to include nothing else.
