Physically it doesn't need to be at a stop. During one of the press events I recall a Dodge rep saying as much. Basically It's a safety measure. I remember him saying they may reconsider the safety measure in the future.Makes me wonder why you have to be at a complete stop to turn on RWD.
I think they’re limiting more than that “for safety” or safety of the drivetrain. Been playing around with mine for a while since I got miles on it and I’m certain the engine gets retard/electronically limited right before peak power in almost all scenarios. There’s just so much torque leading up to it you wouldn’t notice without studying performance pages behavior. Barely getting a hair over 400hp on pulls while torque at 500-530 and rpm well over 5k. It would be nice if they removed the software block. Could grab some extra HP if you find yourself getting into a roll race where you don't need as much traction.
(edit cleaned up my post a bit)... I’ve also had some automatic shifts that felt odd in a pull like the car hit the rev limiter and the transmission shift timing was too slow, because the nose of the car kinda dips.
I’ve done pulls from a roll and have had it happen or hard acceleration out of a turn. I’ve never used launch control or hard launched mine yet.In auto mode with mixed driving, I'm getting ~19.5 mpg.
The "dip" apparently only happens when you're actually using Launch Control.

That’s interesting, I mean it’s definitely happening under high power/torque conditions only. I watched the video and was curious to see why they wouldn’t try it with TCS enabled in sport (pretty sure you can turn it back on or maybe even do “full off” if it’s a timing pull) or going pure RWD in sport to see if that really makes a difference. I’d imagine hooking up in RWD would kill the time as much as the nose dip, though, but would be interesting to see if the dip doesn’t happen there.According to the Dodge engineers in that vid, it does it when there's excessive front wheel spin.
So when you experienced it those times, that's probably what happened.
In Sport Mode or when using LC, traction control is disabled.
I'm guessing that's when it can pop up.
Maybe it won't do it in Auto Mode?

Power braking in Atuo Mode would mean less aggressive launch, slower ET, and therefore no wheel spin.
Ok, I did more research ...
(launching my Durango 392 was so easy, just power brake it and go, it ran the same ET doing that or using LC).
When Hot Rod magazine drag tested the car they also encountered nose dive. They explained it this way and said how to avoid it:

At first I thought it meant don't hold it revved for too long but the bit about good brake pressure makes it sound like you need to start revving quicker?
