Yeah that's wild and obnoxious. No prompt is insane. Do you have the mobile hotspot subscription? I wonder of it saw the data plan and assumed it had wifi.
That's still awful though. Even in park it needs to prompt before it takes away basic features. Imagine if you're in an emergency situation? This is why people hate modern cars...
I wonder if the install would have waited until the car was in park at least and just the download is automatic. Though I don't see a way to close the popup that is blocking nav. Also not good.

I suspect there are some major safety issues they’ve found and are trying to patch for the vehicles they’ve already sold, based on what I experienced. Id imagine they’re trying to push them quickly to cover up a snafu and avoid an official national safety recall or minimize the # of vehicles affected in recall before it goes public… so additionally they’ve likely instructed dealers to not let anything leave the lot until the service department flashes them manually or pulls them OTA.
Just speculation, but I’ve got reasons for my suspicion and potentially unsafe forced updates while you’re driving the car only adds to that suspicion.

My up dates always came up when I either started the car or when I shut it off at home. This issue maybe just sporadic. We shall see if anyone else has the issue. Later RJD
See the other thread where this happens to a guy every time he starts it up? I have to manually look for the update screen and never see this message. When I manually hit update, it's always up to date already.

Tried to force this update to happen today and couldn't make it happen. I haven't seen any updates happen to my car yet other than the transmission one done by the dealer several months ago.

I had it happen today while driving. Just kept driving and it seemed like it finished the update.

My phone acts as a hotspot and the car connects to it.
Yeah, this is why it should of ask before going through the routine.
Interesting, I wonder how large the update file is. On your mobile data plan I mean.

Mobile Data Plan is unlimited.
Where do I look to see what's the latest or what updates I have?
My updates are always asked when shutting off the car....and its only for the maps not the system itself.
The whole U-Connect system, right?
AI says; VEHICLE - SETTINGS - VERSION....but I haven't tried it yet. It's a little different from Uconnect 4.
After more researching, it looks like if there is an update available, it will pop up like Pioneer said earlier. I'm still trying to find what version I have now.
I could only find my MAPS update from 07/03/26, but no Uconnect one yet.
I absolutely hate how they hide this. I don't think there's a way to see versions or any patch note info. If anybody finds it let me know!
I KNOW I could find it on my last HC, because I just looked it up.
